Peripheral neuropathy is a disease characterized by pain or loss of function in the nerves that carry signals to and from the brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system) to other parts of the body. It is a fairly rare condition. WebA far more common cause of nerve related arm or leg pain is compression of a spinal nerve. This condition is called “radiculopathy” and is discussed in more detail elsewhere. In most cases, “pinching” of a lumbar spinal nerve causes buttock and leg pain, and pinching of a cervical spinal nerve causes shoulder and arm pain.
